Description: Manages SimulCrypt synchronizer (SCS) configuration for coordinating multiple CA systems in broadcast headends.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is BCSSIMULCRYPTSCS-MIB?

BCSSIMULCRYPTSCS-MIB is a Motorola BCS (Broadcast Conditional-access Systems) proprietary MIB for configuring the SimulCrypt Synchronizer (SCS), which coordinates entitlement control message (ECM) generation across multiple conditional-access systems in a digital TV broadcast headend. It exposes configuration objects such as network ID, maximum network delay, nominal crypto period, access criteria source, and ECM timing/timeout parameters, along with a table of connections to ECM Generators (ECMGs). This is primarily a configuration MIB for broadcast security timing rather than a hardware-sensor MIB; its monitoring value lies in confirming ECMG connections are established and that crypto-period and timeout parameters are correctly synchronized, since a misconfigured ecmReplyTimeout or a dropped ECMG connection can cause conditional-access failures for subscribers. It is built specifically on top of the DVB SimulCrypt specification rather than general IETF MIBs. It is deployed in digital TV broadcast headends using SimulCrypt to support multiple conditional-access (CA) vendors simultaneously. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the BCSSIMULCRYPTSCS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BCSSIMULCRYPTSCS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Motorola BCS broadcast conditional-access headend equipment (SimulCrypt Synchronizer)

Monitoring Examples

An operator would check bcsSimScsEcmgConnectionTable/bcsSimScsEcmgConnectionEntry entries keyed by bcsSimScsEcmgConnectIndex to confirm all expected ECMG connections are established, and review bcsSimScsEcmReplyTimeout and bcsSimScsEcmgTimeout to ensure ECM generation isn't timing out. An unexpectedly high bcsSimScsEcmNetworkDelay relative to bcsSimScsMaxNetworkDelay would indicate a synchronization problem that could disrupt subscriber decryption of the broadcast stream.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ECMG connection status
  • ECM reply timeout
  • network delay vs. maximum allowed
  • nominal crypto period
  • ECM channel test periodicity
