Description: Manages DOCSIS cable modem configuration file parameters and provisioning settings on BAS CMTS.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is BAS-CM-CONFIG-MIB?
BAS-CM-CONFIG-MIB is a vendor MIB from Broadband Access Systems used to define and manage DOCSIS cable modem configuration file parameters on a CMTS (Cable Modem Termination System). It exposes provisioning-oriented data: downstream frequency, upstream channel ID, network access flags, BPI (Baseline Privacy Interface) security settings, and a class-of-service table controlling per-modem bandwidth caps and burst limits. Rather than hardware health telemetry, this module is primarily a configuration and provisioning MIB, though its class-of-service and capability objects indirectly reveal whether a modem's service tier and access policy are correctly applied, which operators use to diagnose provisioning faults. It builds on the DOCSIS cable modem configuration model and complements standard DOCSIS MIBs used elsewhere on the CMTS. It is deployed by cable operators managing provisioning of subscriber cable modems from a centralized CMTS platform. Engineers can download the BAS-CM-CONFIG-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BAS-CM-CONFIG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- DOCSIS CMTS (Cable Modem Termination System)
- DOCSIS cable modem
Monitoring Examples
An operator would inspect basCmCosTable/basCmCosEntry fields like basCmCosMaxDsBps, basCmCosMaxUsBps and basCmCosGuaranteedUsBps to confirm a subscriber modem was provisioned with the correct service tier bandwidth caps. Checking basCmDsFreq and basCmUsChannelId against expected plant values can reveal a modem registered on the wrong RF channel, while basCmNetworkAccess and basCmBpiSettings indicate whether a modem has been denied service or has privacy encryption misconfigured.
What Can Be Monitored
- downstream frequency
- upstream channel ID
- class-of-service bandwidth caps
- guaranteed upstream bandwidth
- network access status
- BPI security settings
