Category: DOCSIS and Cable
Description: Provides BAS CMTS-specific configuration objects for upstream/downstream channels and RF plant parameters.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is BAS-CMTS-CONFIG-MIB?
BAS-CMTS-CONFIG-MIB defines configuration and traffic objects for a Broadband Access System CMTS, part of the cable broadband access technology area. It exposes per-subscriber-service objects covering MAC/IP address binding, authentication state, host-count limits, traffic octet/packet counters, discard counters, and DOCSIS bandwidth-request/grant counts. Monitoring emphasizes service-level operational health: subscriber authentication status, traffic throughput and discards indicating congestion or errors, and bandwidth request/grant activity reflecting the health of upstream MAC-layer scheduling. It complements standard DOCSIS MIBs such as DOCS-IF-MIB and DOCS-CABLE-DEVICE-MIB. It is deployed at cable head-ends on CMTS platforms serving residential and business broadband subscribers. Engineers can download the BAS-CMTS-CONFIG-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BAS-CMTS-CONFIG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- DOCSIS CMTS (Broadband Access System)
Monitoring Examples
An administrator monitors basCmtsServiceAuthState per subscriber service to confirm devices are authenticated, compares basCmtsServiceCurrentNumHost against basCmtsServiceMaxNumHost to catch a modem exceeding its allowed host count, and watches basCmtsServiceOutDiscards/basCmtsServiceInDiscards rising alongside basCmtsServiceBwReqCount and basCmtsServiceDataGrantCount to identify upstream congestion or a modem failing to receive bandwidth grants.
What Can Be Monitored
- subscriber authentication state
- current vs max host count
- output octets/packets
- input/output discards
- bandwidth request count
- data grant count

| basFlapControlTable | 1.3.6.1.4.1.3493.2.4.1.1.10 | not-accessible | Defines the flap table control settings per MAC IF. A flap-list is a table maintained for every modem (active or not) that is having communication difficulties. Flapping refers to the rapid disconneting and reconneting of a cable modem that is having problems holding a connection. The flap list contains modem MAC addresses and logs the time of the most recent activity. The size and entry thresholds for the flap list can be configured. | |
| I32 basFlapCtlAgingThresh | 1.3.6.1.4.1.3493.2.4.1.1.10.1.3 | Integer32 | read-write | Specifies the number of days to age the cable modem from the flap list table. Setting the aging threshold to 0 results in modems never being aged from the table. |
| I32 basFlapCtlClearFlag | 1.3.6.1.4.1.3493.2.4.1.1.10.1.1 | Integer32 | read-write | Flap list clear control flag. Setting this flag to 1 empties the flap-list table. |
| I32 basFlapCtlInsTimeThresh | 1.3.6.1.4.1.3493.2.4.1.1.10.1.4 | Integer32 | read-write | Specifies the insertion time threshold, in seconds. This threshold controls the operation of a flapping modem detector. When the link establishment rate of a modem is shorter than the period defined by this parameter, the modem is placed in the flap list. Setting this parameter to 0 results in modems never being inserted in the flap list table due to short link establishment times. |
| I32 basFlapCtlMaxTableSize | 1.3.6.1.4.1.3493.2.4.1.1.10.1.2 | Integer32 | read-write | Specifies the max size of the flap-list table. Setting table size to 0 disables flap-list table maintenance. |

When the power adjustment of a modem exceeds the threshold, the modem is placed in the flap list. Setting this parameter to 0 results in modems never being inserted in the flap list table due to power adjustments. |
| basFlapEntry | 1.3.6.1.4.1.3493.2.4.1.1.11.1 | not-accessible | Defines the flap table entries. An entry in this table exists for each ifEntry with an ifType of docsCableMacLayer(127) and for every MacAddress. | |
