Description: Provides packet trace and flow capture configuration for diagnostic use on BAS broadband access systems.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is BAS-TRACE-MIB?
BAS-TRACE-MIB provides packet trace and diagnostic logging configuration for Broadband Access Systems broadband access platforms, letting an operator capture and log internal component activity for troubleshooting. It exposes a trace log table keyed by chassis/slot/interface/logical-port and component ID, recording trace log level and generating notifications carrying a component ID and descriptive string when trace events occur. Its monitoring role is diagnostic/software-status-oriented: basTraceLogLevel shows what logging verbosity is active for a given component, and basTraceLogNotifyString/basTraceLogNotifyComponentId deliver real-time trace notifications useful for catching a misbehaving internal software component before it causes a larger fault. It follows the same chassis/slot/interface/logical-port addressing convention shared by the other BAS-*-MIB modules on this CMTS platform. It is deployed by Broadband Access Systems CMTS operators (or vendor support engineers) during active troubleshooting sessions rather than as routine passive monitoring, and engineers preparing for such sessions typically start with a BAS-TRACE-MIB download to load into their diagnostic MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BAS-TRACE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Broadband Access Systems (BAS) CMTS chassis
Monitoring Examples
A support engineer sets basTraceLogLevel higher for a specific basTraceLogComponentId on a given basTraceLogChassis/basTraceLogSlot to capture detailed diagnostic output, then watches for basTraceLogNotifyString notifications tied to that component to catch the exact sequence of events leading to a fault. Reviewing basTraceLogTable/basTraceLogEntry afterward provides a historical record of trace activity for that slot/port during the diagnostic window.
What Can Be Monitored
- trace log level per component
- trace log notifications/component ID
- chassis/slot/port trace log entries
