What Is BAS-MIB?
BAS-MIB is the root registration MIB for Broadband Access Systems, Inc. (a CMTS vendor later absorbed into other cable-industry product lines), defining the top-level OID tree for its cable modem termination system products. Beyond pure registration, it also defines a set of trap-related objects that carry chassis, slot, interface, and address context for fault notifications generated elsewhere in the product's MIB suite. It plays a real role in monitoring hardware and fault status: trap payload objects like basTrapChassis, basTrapSlot, and basTrapIf identify exactly which physical component raised an alarm, while basTrapCmtsCmMacAddress/basTrapCmtsCmIpAddress and gateway/management/craft IP objects pinpoint the affected cable modem or management interface. It underlies the broader BAS CMTS MIB family (e.g. basCudaChassMgr, basCuda10100Rs modules) that generate these notifications. It is used in cable operator headends managing Broadband Access Systems CMTS chassis via SNMP. Every trap and object emitted by the broader BAS CMTS MIB family is ultimately rooted at a BAS-MIB OID, making this module the anchor point for the entire product line's SNMP namespace.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BAS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
What Can Be Monitored
- chassis/slot/interface trap identifiers
- affected cable modem MAC/IP address
- cable modem gateway address
- management and craft interface IP addresses
- product ID
Supported Devices
- Broadband Access Systems (BAS) CMTS chassis
Monitoring Examples
A monitoring system receiving a chassis-related trap would inspect basTrapChassisNumber and basTrapSlot to identify which physical slot raised the alarm, and basTrapIf/basTrapLPort to pinpoint the affected line card interface. For cable-modem-specific faults, basTrapCmtsCmMacAddress, basTrapCmtsCmIpAddress, and basTrapCmtsCmGwAddress identify the specific subscriber modem involved, while basTrapMgmtOneIpAddress/basTrapMgmtTwoIpAddress and basTrapCraftIpAddress help correlate the alarm to the correct management or craft-access interface on the basProductId-identified chassis.
