What Is ASCEND-MIBANSWER-MIB?

ASCEND-MIBANSWER-MIB is a proprietary Ascend MIB that configures how a WAN access device answers incoming calls, defining answer profiles and parameters applied per line or channel. It exposes configuration data governing inbound call handling, such as which protocol or speed a channel should answer at, rather than live traffic counters. Its contribution to monitoring is indirect: by comparing the configured answer profile against actual session outcomes reported in ASCEND-CALL-MIB, an operator can verify that the device's software is correctly applying its answer policy, an important software-behavior health check on access equipment. It is designed to work together with ASCEND-CALL-MIB, since the answer profiles this MIB configures directly determine how incoming calls tracked by the call MIB get connected. It was deployed on Ascend WAN access equipment terminating dial-in connections for ISPs and enterprises, where ASCEND-MIBANSWER-MIB SNMP monitoring helped verify configured answer profiles matched actual call outcomes.

Monitoring Examples

An admin reviews the answer-profile configuration objects to confirm which line or channel is set to auto-answer at a particular speed or protocol, then cross-references ASCEND-CALL-MIB session data to see whether calls are actually connecting per that profile. A configured profile that never shows matching successful connects in the call MIB suggests a misconfigured answer parameter or a faulty physical line. Per-channel answer-parameter mismatches are a common target when troubleshooting inbound connection failures.
