Description: Configures Automatic Protection Switching parameters for SONET/SDH interfaces on Ascend equipment.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ASCEND-MIBAPSCFG-MIB?

ASCEND-MIBAPSCFG-MIB is an Ascend (later Lucent) proprietary MIB for configuring Automatic Protection Switching (APS) on SONET/SDH interfaces in Ascend WAN/access equipment. It exposes configuration of the working/protect line pairing and switching mode (e.g., 1+1 or 1:1) with revertive behavior. It is used to provision optical-line redundancy in advance, and polling its config state lets an operator confirm the intended protection scheme is correctly set up before it is needed during a line fault. It is the configuration counterpart to ASCEND-MIBAPSSTAT-MIB and parallels concepts found in standard SONET/SDH transport MIBs. It was deployed on legacy Ascend/Lucent SONET/SDH access and transport equipment in telco WAN networks. Engineers can download the ASCEND-MIBAPSCFG-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ASCEND-MIBAPSCFG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ascend/Lucent SONET/SDH WAN access equipment

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were captured for this module, so exact object names are not available. Based on its purpose, it would expose a per-interface APS group configuration object recording the working and protect line assignment and switching mode, which an operator checks to confirm protection is provisioned as intended rather than left unprotected.

What Can Be Monitored

  • APS group/protection configuration
  • working vs. protect line assignment
  • switching mode and revertive setting
