Description: Manages Virtual Switching Extension active-active redundancy configuration on Aruba CX switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ARUBAWIRED-VSX-MIB?

ARUBAWIRED-VSX-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB for HPE Aruba CX wired switches, covering Virtual Switching Extension (VSX), an active-active redundancy feature that pairs two physical switches to behave as a single logical switch for downstream devices while each remains independently manageable. It exposes configuration of the inter-switch link (ISL) used to synchronize the pair, along with keepalive settings used to detect peer failure, and overall VSX configuration/status objects. Its monitoring relevance is in redundancy and software/hardware status: it lets an administrator confirm the ISL is up and healthy, verify the peer switch's software version and platform match for compatibility, and monitor keepalive connectivity that determines split-brain avoidance if the ISL fails. It depends on IP connectivity (and optionally VRF routing) for the keepalive mechanism, layering VSX logic on top of standard IP/UDP transport. It is deployed in campus and data center core/aggregation layers wherever a pair of Aruba CX switches provides active-active redundant uplinks. Engineers can download the ARUBAWIRED-VSX-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ARUBAWIRED-VSX-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Aruba CX wired switch (ArubaOS-CX, VSX pair)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would check arubaWiredVsxStatus and arubaWiredVsxIslPort to confirm the inter-switch link is operational, and inspect arubaWiredVsxIslPlatformName and arubaWiredVsxIslSwVersion to verify the peer switch is running compatible hardware and firmware. arubaWiredVsxKeepAliveSrcIPAddr, arubaWiredVsxKeepAliveVrf, and arubaWiredVsxKeepAliveUdpPort describe the out-of-band keepalive path used to detect peer failure if the ISL goes down. If arubaWiredVsxIslHelloTimeout is exceeded without a hello being received, the pair risks a split-brain condition, and arubaWiredVsxNotifications would alert operators to intervene before both switches assume primary forwarding role.

What Can Be Monitored

  • inter-switch link (ISL) status
  • peer switch software version/platform
  • keepalive configuration and status
  • hello interval/timeout state
