Description: Alvarion Virtual Service Community (VSC) profile configuration and policy management.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ALVARION-VSC-MIB?
ALVARION-VSC-MIB is Alvarion's proprietary MIB for configuring Virtual Service Communities (VSCs), logically distinct wireless service profiles similar in spirit to the virtual-AP concept, on its base station/access point equipment. It exposes per-VSC configuration such as the friendly name, SSID, whether access is controlled, and which security/encryption and authentication methods (802.1x, MAC, or HTML/captive-portal) are enabled. Its monitoring value is security/configuration status: verifying that access control and an appropriate authentication method are actually enabled for each community, which would catch a service community accidentally left open or under-secured. It is a standalone Alvarion-proprietary MIB with no direct dependency on IETF standards, though it parallels general WLAN security concepts. It is deployed on Alvarion wireless equipment offering multiple differentiated service tiers (e.g., public, subscriber, staff) from the same physical infrastructure. Engineers can download the ALVARION-VSC-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ALVARION-VSC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Alvarion wireless base stations/access points supporting Virtual Service Communities
Monitoring Examples
coVscConfigTable/coVscConfigEntry, indexed by coVscCfgIndex, exposes coVscCfgFriendlyVscName and coVscCfgSSID identifying each virtual service community. coVscCfgAccessControlled, coVscCfgSecurity, and coVscCfgEncryption reveal whether a given VSC is secured, while coVscCfg8021xAuthentication, coVscCfgMACAuthentication, and coVscCfgHTMLAuthentication show which specific authentication methods are enabled - letting an admin spot a community that was left without any authentication mechanism turned on.
What Can Be Monitored
- VSC name and SSID
- access control enabled state
- security/encryption method
- 802.1x authentication enabled state
- MAC authentication enabled state
- HTML (captive portal) authentication enabled state
