What Is ALVARION-SMI?
ALVARION-SMI is the Structure of Management Information module for Alvarion, a manufacturer of fixed and mobile broadband wireless access (BWA/WiMAX) equipment, defining the root enterprise OID registration tree beneath which all Alvarion proprietary MIB modules attach their object definitions. It contains no runtime data objects of its own -- it is purely a namespace/registration MIB establishing the top-level arcs that the vendor's functional MIBs (covering wireless base station and subscriber unit status, radio parameters, and system configuration) build upon. Its role in hardware/software status monitoring is entirely indirect: it underlies the OID structure used by companion Alvarion MIBs to expose radio link quality, base station hardware health, and subscriber unit connectivity status. As an enterprise SMI module it depends only on the standard SNMPv2-SMI/IANA enterprise-numbering conventions for constructing the OID tree. It is deployed wherever Alvarion wireless broadband access equipment (base stations, subscriber units) is installed, with this module compiled first so dependent MIBs resolve correctly in the NMS; the ALVARION-SMI MIB itself never appears in a polling script, but compiling it correctly is what allows those functional MIBs to resolve at all.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ALVARION-SMI. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Alvarion broadband wireless access equipment
- WiMAX base station
- subscriber unit
Monitoring Examples
No sample objects were extracted for this module, consistent with its purpose as a pure OID-registration root with no scalars or tables. An admin would never poll ALVARION-SMI directly for values; instead an NMS compiles it as a prerequisite before loading the vendor's functional MIBs that expose wireless base station and subscriber unit status, radio signal parameters, and hardware alarms. Its presence in a MIB tree signals that Alvarion wireless access equipment is under management.
