Description: Alvarion wireless device syslog MIB for managing remote syslog server configuration and log severity filters.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ALVARION-SYSLOG-MIB?
ALVARION-SYSLOG-MIB is a proprietary Alvarion wireless-device MIB for configuring and monitoring the device's syslog subsystem, including filtering of remote log messages by severity and regular-expression pattern matching. It exposes configuration objects for which severity levels and message patterns trigger SNMP notifications, plus objects representing individual logged messages such as their number, facility, severity, and text. This is a software/event-log health MIB: syslogMsgSeverity and syslogMsgText let an operator inspect the actual content and severity of recent system log events, which commonly report software faults, authentication problems, or hardware alarm conditions logged as text, while the severity and regex notification-enable objects determine which of those events escalate into real-time SNMP traps. It works alongside conventional syslog facility/severity conventions rather than a formal IETF SYSLOG-MIB, within Alvarion's proprietary framework. It is deployed on Alvarion wireless broadband base stations and subscriber units where centralized log and event monitoring is needed across many remote radio sites. Engineers can download the ALVARION-SYSLOG-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ALVARION-SYSLOG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Alvarion wireless broadband base station/subscriber unit
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would configure syslogSeverityLevel and syslogTrapSeverityLevel so only messages at or above a chosen severity generate SNMP traps, then inspect syslogMsgSeverity, syslogMsgFacility, and syslogMsgText on the resulting trap-carried entries to identify recurring software errors. Setting syslogMessageRegEx together with syslogRegExMatchNotificationEnabled lets an admin get alerted specifically when a known fault string, such as a hardware alarm text pattern, appears in the log stream. Tracking syslogMsgNumber over time helps confirm no log entries were missed between polls.
What Can Be Monitored
- syslog message severity and facility
- syslog message text content
- severity-based notification thresholds
- regex-based message match alerts
