What Is HUAWEI-WLAN-AP-MIB?

HUAWEI-WLAN-AP-MIB is a Huawei enterprise MIB for managing wireless access points, covering AP radio configuration, SSID profiles, channel assignment, and wireless client statistics. It exposes configuration data (radio/channel settings, SSID profiles) alongside operational and fault data, including trap objects for insufficient PoE power conditions (hwApPowerInsufficientTrap/hwApPowerInsufficientResumeTrap) and PoE work-mode objects. It supports monitoring of hardware status specifically around power delivery to APs via PoE work-mode objects and power-insufficiency traps, alongside wireless client statistics that reflect radio-level operational health. As a Huawei enterprise extension, it likely works alongside standard IEEE 802.11 and PoE-related MIBs for full AP management. It is deployed on Huawei WLAN access points managed by Huawei wireless controllers in enterprise Wi-Fi deployments. Because Huawei does not bundle this module with every controller firmware image, administrators sometimes need a separate HUAWEI-WLAN-AP-MIB download from Huawei's support portal to get trap and PoE work-mode definitions matching their AP firmware version.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HUAWEI-WLAN-AP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

What Can Be Monitored

  • PoE power-insufficient trap state
  • PoE work mode
  • SSID profile configuration
  • radio channel assignment
  • wireless client statistics

Supported Devices

  • Huawei AirEngine 6576-56TP (2024) — Wi-Fi 7 access point, 8 spatial streams, up to 7.89 Gbps
  • Huawei AirEngine 5573-21 (2024) — Wi-Fi 7 access point, 4 spatial streams, up to 3.57 Gbps

Monitoring Examples

An admin would monitor hwApPowerInsufficientTrap and its corresponding hwApPowerInsufficientResumeTrap to detect when an AP is receiving inadequate PoE power and when that condition clears, which is a common cause of AP reboots or degraded radio performance. hwWlanAPPoeWorkmode (and its ID-indexed variant hwWlanIDIndexedAPPoeWorkmode) would be checked to confirm the AP's PoE negotiation mode matches the expected power budget, while SSID profile and channel assignment objects would be reviewed to confirm wireless configuration matches the intended deployment plan.

FAQ

How does HUAWEI-WLAN-AP-MIB help detect PoE power problems on Huawei access points?
It defines PoE work-mode objects plus dedicated trap objects, hwApPowerInsufficientTrap and hwApPowerInsufficientResumeTrap, so a monitoring system can alert when an AP isn't getting enough PoE power and again when the condition clears.

What wireless configuration and performance data does this MIB expose for enterprise Wi-Fi monitoring?
It covers radio channel assignment, SSID profile configuration, and wireless client statistics, giving administrators visibility into both the AP's configured settings and its radio-level operational health.

RFC description

Manages Huawei wireless access points in fit AP topology, supporting AP configuration, statistics, and centralized management through an AC.

Start monitoring Huawei wireless access point, e.g. AirEngine 6576-56TP/5573-21 (radio/SSID/PoE) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
