Description: Alvarion wireless device CDP MIB for managing Cisco Discovery Protocol neighbor discovery on Alvarion equipment.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ALVARION-CDP-MIB?
ALVARION-CDP-MIB is a vendor enterprise MIB from Alvarion implementing support for Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP) neighbor information on Alvarion wireless equipment, allowing it to participate in mixed-vendor topology discovery. It exposes a CDP cache table listing discovered neighbor devices with their local interface, network address, device ID, platform, capabilities, port ID, and advertisement time-to-live, plus a global CDP advertisement message interval setting. Its monitoring value is topology and neighbor-health visibility: an admin can confirm which directly-connected devices (including non-Alvarion, Cisco-capable neighbors) are visible, detect stale entries (TTL expiring) indicating a lost or misconfigured link, and verify the CDP message interval is set consistently across the network. It is explicitly modeled on the Cisco-originated CDP protocol rather than an IETF standard. It is deployed on Alvarion wireless equipment operating in networks with mixed Cisco/Alvarion gear where Layer 2 neighbor discovery is needed. Engineers can download the ALVARION-CDP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ALVARION-CDP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Alvarion wireless base station/access equipment
Monitoring Examples
An operator walks coCdpCacheTable/coCdpCacheEntry keyed by coCdpCacheDeviceIndex to see coCdpCacheDeviceId, coCdpCachePlatform, and coCdpCachePortId for each neighbor on a given coCdpCacheLocalInterface, confirming expected topology. A neighbor entry that disappears or whose coCdpCacheTimeToLive is about to expire signals a lost CDP advertisement, which often correlates with a link or software fault on that port. coCdpGlobalMessageInterval lets an admin confirm the local device's advertisement frequency matches the network-wide CDP timing convention.
What Can Be Monitored
- discovered neighbor device ID and platform
- neighbor capabilities
- local interface to neighbor mapping
- CDP entry time-to-live
- CDP advertisement interval
