Description: Alvarion wireless MIB for tracking wireless client association history, roaming events, and station location.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ALVARION-CLIENT-TRACKING-MIB?

ALVARION-CLIENT-TRACKING-MIB is an Alvarion enterprise MIB for tracking wireless client association lifecycle events on Alvarion wireless broadband access points and base stations. It exposes per-event-type notification enable/disable flags for association, re-association, authentication, disassociation, and de-authentication (both successful and failed), plus general client-tracking event information. It is used to monitor the software/wireless-service status of client connectivity -- confirming which client-tracking notifications are enabled and consuming the resulting event traps to see association and authentication successes or failures -- functioning as a fault and client-roaming monitoring tool rather than hardware status. As a notification-oriented MIB it works together with SNMP trap infrastructure and likely the base Alvarion wireless MIB for AP configuration. It is typically deployed on Alvarion wireless access points/base stations in WISP or enterprise Wi-Fi/WiMAX networks needing visibility into client roaming and authentication failures. Engineers can download the ALVARION-CLIENT-TRACKING-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ALVARION-CLIENT-TRACKING-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Alvarion wireless access points/base stations (WiMAX/Wi-Fi)

Monitoring Examples

An admin could check clientTrackingAssociationFailureNotificationEnabled and clientTrackingAuthenticationFailureNotificationEnabled to confirm failure traps are turned on, then monitor incoming traps referencing clientTrackingEventInformation to see which stations failed to associate or authenticate. A spike in events tracked via clientTrackingDisAssociationFailureNotificationEnabled or clientTrackingDeAuthenticationFailureNotificationEnabled could indicate a misbehaving client or RF interference causing repeated roam failures.

What Can Be Monitored

  • association success/failure events
  • re-association success/failure events
  • authentication success/failure events
  • disassociation success/failure events
  • de-authentication success/failure events
  • client event notification enable state
