Category: Vendor: ADTRAN

Description: Manages the dying gasp notification feature on ADTRAN AOS devices, providing last-gasp power-failure event reporting.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ADTRAN-AOS-DYING-GASP-MIB?

ADTRAN-AOS-DYING-GASP-MIB is an ADTRAN-specific MIB for devices running AdtranOS (AOS), defining a "dying gasp" trap that a device sends as its last action during an imminent power failure. It exposes a single notification object along with its associated conformance groups and compliance statements, rather than ongoing performance counters. It is used to monitor the hardware status of the device's power supply, specifically detecting an imminent, uncontrolled power loss event so that an NMS can flag the outage moments before the device goes fully offline, which is critical for distinguishing a power failure from a normal reboot or a network-connectivity loss. It is a small, self-contained trap module without deep dependencies beyond ADTRAN's own AOS enterprise MIB tree for trap OID registration. It is typically deployed on ADTRAN AOS-based routers, switches, and access devices in telecom/enterprise WAN edge environments where power-loss awareness is valuable for outage diagnosis. Engineers can download the ADTRAN-AOS-DYING-GASP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ADTRAN-AOS-DYING-GASP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • ADTRAN AOS-based routers, switches, and WAN access devices

Monitoring Examples

An NMS subscribed to adGenAOSDyingGaspTrap under adGenAOSDyingGasp would receive a final notification the instant an ADTRAN device detects imminent power loss, distinguishing a power failure from a silent network drop. Since the MIB's remaining objects, adGenAOSDyingGaspConformance, adGenAOSDyingGaspGroups, and adGenAOSDyingGaspCompliances, are conformance/compliance definitions rather than runtime data, there is no additional polling data to gather beyond the trap itself. An admin's action is to log and correlate the trap's timestamp against the site's reported outage window.
