Description: Provides dynamic statistical counters for ADTRAN AOS devices covering real-time traffic and protocol performance metrics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ADTRAN-AOS-DYN-STATS?

ADTRAN-AOS-DYN-STATS is a vendor-specific MIB for ADTRAN AOS (AdtranOS) devices providing a generic, dynamically-configurable statistics/counter framework for real-time traffic and protocol performance metrics. It exposes an indexed table of counters (adGenAosDynamicStatsIndex) where each entry defines a counter type and monitored port (adGenAosDynamicStatsCounterType, adGenAosDynamicStatsCounterPort) along with its enable status, raw packet/byte totals, and pre-computed rate averages over 30-second and 5-minute windows (adGenAosDynamicStatsPacketsPerSecondAvg30s/5m, adGenAosDynamicStatsBitsPerSecondAvg30s/5m). This is a performance-counter monitoring MIB focused on software-level traffic statistics, letting an operator track throughput and packet rates per port/protocol on an AdtranOS device to spot congestion or unusual traffic patterns, rather than physical hardware health. It is part of ADTRAN's broader AOS enterprise MIB suite and relies on standard SNMP SMI/TC conventions for its counter table structure. It is typically deployed on ADTRAN AOS-based routers/switches used in enterprise WAN and carrier-access networks. Engineers can download the ADTRAN-AOS-DYN-STATS file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ADTRAN-AOS-DYN-STATS. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • ADTRAN AOS (AdtranOS) router/switch

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll the dynamic stats table by adGenAosDynamicStatsIndex to check adGenAosDynamicStatsPacketsPerSecondAvg5m and adGenAosDynamicStatsBitsPerSecondAvg5m for a given adGenAosDynamicStatsCounterPort, comparing the 30-second average to the 5-minute average to spot a sudden traffic spike or a stalled interface. If adGenAosDynamicStatsCounterStatus shows a counter disabled unexpectedly, that would reveal a monitoring gap on that counter. Cumulative adGenAosDynamicStatsPacketCount and adGenAosDynamicStatsBytesCount give longer-term traffic volume trending per counter.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-port packet/byte counters
  • packets-per-second average (30s/5m)
  • bits-per-second average (30s/5m)
  • counter type/enable status

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using adGenAosDynamicStatsPacketsPerSecondAvg30s OID:

Select an ADTRAN NetVanta/SDG-series AOS device as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type adGenAosDynamicStatsPacketsPerSecondAvg30s into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the average rate of frames/packets per second received, transmitted, assigned to a queue or dropped due to congestion (depending on the Counter configuration) in the last 30 seconds. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Gauge32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases between polls, since a rising count of errors, failures, or discards often points to a real underlying problem. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
