Description: Manages alarm notifications and active alarm tables on Accedian MetroNID Ethernet performance devices.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ACD-ALARM-MIB?
ACD-ALARM-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Accedian Networks for its MetroNID line of Ethernet performance-monitoring demarcation devices, focused on alarm generation and reporting. It exposes a general alarm-threshold configuration group (acdAlarmGenThreshOn/Off, LED/syslog/SNMP notification enables) alongside a per-alarm configuration table (acdAlarmCfgTable) that defines individual alarm IDs, descriptions, and enable states. This MIB is squarely about fault/status monitoring: it lets an operator see which alarms are currently active, how alarms are surfaced (LED, syslog, SNMP trap, or 802.3ah OAM), and whether specific alarm conditions are enabled, effectively acting as the device's software-level health/fault-status reporting layer rather than exposing physical sensors directly. It depends on the broader Accedian enterprise MIB tree and likely correlates with other Accedian MIBs (e.g., shaper, TID) whose conditions feed into this common alarm framework. It is typically deployed on Accedian MetroNID NIDs (network interface devices) used by carriers for Ethernet service demarcation and SLA performance assurance. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the ACD-ALARM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ACD-ALARM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Accedian MetroNID Ethernet demarcation device
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll acdAlarmCfgTable / acdAlarmCfgEntry, keyed by acdAlarmCfgID, to see acdAlarmCfgDesc and acdAlarmCfgEnable for each configured alarm, and check acdAlarmGenThreshOn/acdAlarmGenThreshOff to understand the hysteresis thresholds that trigger and clear alarms. If acdAlarmGenSNMPEnable is set, the device would emit alarm traps that a monitoring system correlates back to the acdAlarmCfgNumber; a persistently active alarm entry with notifications disabled (acdAlarmCfgEnable false) would reveal a masked fault that isn't being surfaced. This gives visibility into demarcation-device fault conditions across the alarm framework.
What Can Be Monitored
- active alarm status
- alarm threshold configuration
- alarm notification method (LED/syslog/SNMP)
- 802.3ah OAM alarm enable
- per-alarm enable/description
