Last Updated: 240701

Category: Alarm and Event Management

Description: Manages aggregated SNMP trap configuration, enabling batching or consolidation of multiple notifications into aggregate events.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is AGG-TRAP-MIB?

AGG-TRAP-MIB is a Lucent Technologies MIB, registered under the lucent.products.mantraDevice branch, intended to manage aggregated/batched SNMP trap notifications for an unspecified "Mantra" device product line. The module's own description is an unfilled vendor template ("the xxxx protocol"), and only branch/registration nodes are present in the available source, so no specific data-object names can be confirmed. Conceptually, the category of data it is meant to expose is trap-handling configuration -- controls for batching, thresholds, or enabling/disabling aggregation of repeated fault notifications. Its intended monitoring value is fault-monitoring support: consolidating repeated notifications during a fault storm so an NMS trap receiver is not flooded with duplicate alerts, which indirectly aids visibility into device fault conditions. No dependency on other MIBs is evident, and it would be deployed wherever Lucent Mantra-branded devices generate high volumes of SNMP traps that benefit from aggregation before reaching a management station. Engineers can download the AGG-TRAP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in AGG-TRAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Lucent Mantra device (specific product line unspecified in source)

Monitoring Examples

Only the branch/registration nodes (lucent, products, mantraDevice) are present in the sampled objects, so the specific trap-aggregation configuration objects cannot be confirmed from the available source. Conceptually an administrator would use this module to set batching parameters so that a burst of repeated fault traps from a Mantra device is consolidated into a single aggregate notification instead of flooding the trap receiver.
