Category: ZTE Access Node (ZTE-AN) Management

Description: Manages ZTE access node PON protection switching configuration for optical access redundancy.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ZTE-AN-PON-PROTECTION-MIB?

ZTE-AN-PON-PROTECTION-MIB manages PON (Passive Optical Network) protection switching on ZTE Access Node equipment, controlling redundant optical paths (e.g., dual fiber feeds or dual OLT ports) so service can automatically fail over if the primary optical path degrades or breaks. It exposes global protection configuration, per-instance protection-group objects (active/standby path selection, switchover triggers), and a notifications group reporting protection-switch events. Its monitoring value is in optical-path fault tolerance: an operator watches protection-group status to confirm which optical path is currently active and gets alerted via notifications the moment an automatic switchover occurs, which signals a fault on the primary PON path (e.g., a fiber cut or failing OLT port) that needs physical follow-up even though service continued uninterrupted. It is a ZTE-proprietary redundancy MIB layered on top of the PON/GPON physical-layer standards rather than importing an IETF MIB directly. It is deployed on ZTE access nodes providing PON access service where dual-homed fiber or OLT-port redundancy has been configured for high availability. Engineers can download the ZTE-AN-PON-PROTECTION-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ZTE-AN-PON-PROTECTION-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • ZTE Access Node (PON/OLT with protection switching)

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll zxAnPonProtectionObjects to see the current active/standby state of a protected PON path and subscribe to zxAnPonProtectionNotifications to be alerted the instant a protection switchover occurs, which reveals a fault on the previously active fiber path or OLT port. zxAnPonProtectionGlobalObjects holds device-wide protection-feature configuration, while zxAnPonProtectionConformance, zxAnPonProtectionCompliances, and zxAnPonProtectionGroups are the standard conformance clauses defining which objects a compliant agent must support rather than runtime data.

What Can Be Monitored

  • active/standby PON path status
  • protection switchover events
  • protection group configuration

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using zxAnPonProtectDataSyncProgress OID:

Select a ZTE Access Node (PON/OLT with protection switching) (active/standby optical-path switchover status) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type zxAnPonProtectDataSyncProgress into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. This object indicates the executing percentage of the data synchronizing procedure. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an Integer32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value drifts significantly from its normal baseline, since an unexpected change often points to a real underlying issue. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
