What Is ZTE-AN-OTDR-MIB?

ZTE-AN-OTDR-MIB manages Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) test capability built into ZTE Access Node equipment, used to remotely test fiber spans and locate breaks, splices, or excessive loss points without dispatching a technician with handheld test gear. It exposes global OTDR equipment configuration, per-interface test objects, and two distinct test-type object groups -- fast tests (quick go/no-go fiber checks) and routine/scheduled tests (more thorough periodic sweeps) -- along with a notifications group for test-completion or fault events. Its monitoring value is centered on fiber-plant health and fault isolation: an operator triggers or schedules an OTDR test on a PON/fiber interface and reads back the fault-distance and loss results to pinpoint exactly where a fiber break or bad splice has occurred, and watches for automatic OTDR fault notifications on a fiber cut. It is a ZTE-proprietary optical-diagnostics MIB with no apparent dependency on an IETF standard, closely tied to the physical PON/fiber interfaces it tests. It is deployed on ZTE access nodes serving PON/fiber access networks, used by field operations for remote fiber troubleshooting, and the ZTE-AN-OTDR-MIB download is available to field engineers who want to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ZTE-AN-OTDR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • ZTE Access Node (PON/fiber interfaces with integrated OTDR)

Monitoring Examples

An admin would use zxAnOtdrFastTestObjects to kick off a quick OTDR check on a suspect fiber interface, or rely on zxAnOtdrRoutineTestObjects for scheduled periodic sweeps, then read the results under zxAnOtdrIfObjects to see the distance to a fault and its estimated loss. zxAnOtdrGlobalObjects holds device-wide OTDR equipment configuration, while zxAnOtdrNotifications delivers an alert when a test completes or detects a fiber fault, letting operations jump straight to the reported break location rather than dispatching a technician to search the span. zxAnOtdrObjects is the overall subtree grouping these OTDR test objects together.

What Can Be Monitored

  • OTDR fast-test results
  • OTDR routine/scheduled test results
  • fiber fault distance/location
  • fiber loss measurement
  • OTDR test-completion/fault notifications

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using zxAnOtdrCtrlCardCurrentTemp OID:

Select a ZTE Access Node (PON/fiber interfaces with integrated OTDR) (fiber-fault-distance/loss test-result status) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type zxAnOtdrCtrlCardCurrentTemp into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. The current control card temperature of OTDR equipment. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an Integer32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the reported value exceeds the level expected for healthy operation, since sustained high temperature often precedes thermal shutdown or hardware degradation. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
