Description: Manages Zhone Technologies line redundancy configuration, switchover triggers, and protection group status.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ZHONE-GEN-LINE-REDUNDANCY?

ZHONE-GEN-LINE-REDUNDANCY defines Zhone Technologies' generic interface-group MIB for pairing lines (interfaces) into redundancy groups, so that a standby line can take over if the active line fails, excluding channelized sub-entities like DS1 channels on a DS3. It exposes configuration data for forming and managing these redundant line-group pairs, along with status/state objects indicating which line in a pair is currently active and whether a protection switchover has occurred. Its monitoring value is centered on fault tolerance and failover status: an operator watches for an unexpected switchover event or a group reporting a lost standby line, both of which signal a physical-layer fault that triggered (or should have triggered) protection. It builds on the standard interface (IF-MIB) concept of interface grouping but adds Zhone-specific redundancy semantics, so it has an implicit dependency on ifIndex-based interface identification. It is deployed on Zhone access/aggregation equipment carrying paired lines (e.g., protected T1/E1 or DS3 circuits) where line-level redundancy is configured for availability. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the ZHONE-GEN-LINE-REDUNDANCY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ZHONE-GEN-LINE-REDUNDANCY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Zhone access/aggregation equipment (redundant line pairs)

Monitoring Examples

No sample object names were provided for this module; based on the module description, an admin would poll the redundancy-group table to see which line in each protected pair is currently active, and watch for switchover-trigger/status objects changing state to detect that a line failure caused an automatic failover to the standby line.

What Can Be Monitored

  • active/standby line status
  • switchover trigger events
  • protection group configuration
  • line pair state
