Description: Manages Xyplex transparent bridging port state, spanning tree configuration, and forwarding table.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is XYPLEX-BRIDGE-MIB?

XYPLEX-BRIDGE-MIB is a legacy vendor MIB for Xyplex terminal servers/bridges that manages transparent bridging, covering port learning state, spanning tree participation, and forwarding table contents alongside general system identity objects. It exposes system-level objects like brsysName, brsysMacAddress, and brsysUpTime alongside bridging-specific queue discipline and LAT protocol compression table sizing objects. Its monitoring value spans both hardware and software status: brsysUpTime tracks device uptime for availability monitoring, while the LAT announcement and packet compression table usage objects (brsysLatAnnceCompTblUseSize/UseHigh) reveal whether internal software resource tables are approaching capacity. It is an older enterprise MIB predating widespread adoption of the standard BRIDGE-MIB (RFC 1493) and largely stands on its own within the Xyplex enterprise tree rather than depending on it. It would have been deployed in legacy DEC/Xyplex terminal server and LAT networking environments common in 1990s-era campus networks, where XYPLEX-BRIDGE-MIB SNMP monitoring tracked bridge uptime and LAT resource usage.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in XYPLEX-BRIDGE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Xyplex terminal servers
  • Xyplex bridge/LAT network devices

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll brsysUpTime to confirm the bridge has not unexpectedly rebooted, and check brsysLatAnnceCompTblUseSize against brsysLatAnnceCompTblSize to see if the LAT announcement compression table is nearing exhaustion, which would cause dropped LAT service announcements. brsysForwardQueueDisc and brsysLocalQueueDisc show the queuing discipline in effect, useful for diagnosing why forwarded traffic is being dropped or reordered under load.

What Can Be Monitored

  • device uptime
  • LAT announcement table usage
  • packet compression table usage
  • forward/local queue discipline
  • bridge MAC address identity
