Description: Manages Xylan OmniSwitch PPP link parameters, authentication configuration, and compression settings.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is XYLAN-PPP-MIB?

This Xylan Corporation enterprise MIB for the OmniSwitch platform manages Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) WAN links, covering link-level parameters such as authentication method (PAP/CHAP), compression settings, and negotiated link options. It primarily exposes configuration data for serial/WAN interfaces rather than counters, letting an operator confirm how a PPP link is set up. Its monitoring value lies in confirming the software configuration state of WAN links — whether authentication and compression are correctly negotiated — which is foundational to diagnosing why a PPP link fails to establish or drops unexpectedly. It complements the standard IETF PPP MIBs (RFC 1471/1472/1473) by adding Xylan-specific link-management objects layered on the standard PPP interface model. It is used in OmniSwitch deployments terminating serial WAN or dial-up PPP circuits, such as branch-office or legacy WAN aggregation setups. Engineers can download the XYLAN-PPP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in XYLAN-PPP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Xylan OmniSwitch WAN/serial interface module

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were available in this MIB source. In general, an administrator would poll the PPP link configuration to check the authentication method and compression settings per interface. Such a check would typically explain why a link negotiates without compression or fails CHAP authentication after a configuration change on one end.

What Can Be Monitored

  • PPP link authentication method
  • PPP compression configuration
  • negotiated link parameters
