Category: Xerox Printer Management

Description: Manages Xerox XCMI network communications configuration including protocol stacks and interface parameters.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is XEROX-COMMS-CONFIG-MIB?

The XEROX-COMMS-CONFIG-MIB (version 5.11) is Xerox's Communications Management Interface (XCMI) MIB for active configuration discovery of communications protocol stacks, end systems, intermediate systems, and gateways on Xerox network-attached hosts and printers. It exposes configuration tables for protocol stack composition and option selection, including which protocol options are active in a stack and the row status of each configuration entry. Its monitoring emphasis is largely software/configuration-state: confirming which communications protocol options are active in a device's stack and whether configuration entries are in the expected operational row state, rather than hardware environmental telemetry. It explicitly depends on RFC 2790's Host Resources MIB, referencing hrDeviceIndex/hrDeviceProcessor to index the host system's CPU. It was deployed on Xerox network printers and hosts with configurable multi-protocol communications stacks, managed by network administrators auditing device connectivity configuration, who can download the XEROX-COMMS-CONFIG-MIB file to load it into a MIB browser for that audit.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in XEROX-COMMS-CONFIG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Xerox network printer/host with XCMI support

Monitoring Examples

xcmCommsConfigTable/xcmCommsConfigEntry, keyed partly via a Host Resources hrDeviceIndex referencing a host CPU, expose xcmCommsConfigActiveOptionFirst/Last to show which protocol options are enabled in a communications stack, and xcmCommsConfigRowStatus to confirm a configuration entry is active. An admin auditing a Xerox device's active protocol stack would check xcmCommsOptionTable/xcmCommsOptionEntry for the specific options in use and flag an entry whose row status isn't active when a protocol was expected to be running.

What Can Be Monitored

  • active communications protocol stack options
  • protocol stack configuration row status
  • comms option table entries
  • protocol option create/update support
