Category: Wellfleet BayNetworks WAN Interfaces

Description: Monitors Wellfleet DS1 T1 interface parameters, framing format, line coding, and error performance counters.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Wellfleet-DS1-MIB?

The Wellfleet-DS1-MIB is a Wellfleet Communications proprietary MIB for managing T1 (DS1) WAN interfaces on Wellfleet routers, a technology area covering physical-layer digital transmission circuits. It exposes configuration data such as framing format (D4/ESF) and line coding (AMI/B8ZS) alongside performance and error counters for the DS1 line. From a monitoring standpoint it is primarily a hardware/link-health MIB: it lets an operator confirm the physical interface's operational status, line configuration, and accumulated error seconds/violations that signal cabling, clocking, or carrier-circuit problems on the WAN link. It is a vendor extension layered conceptually alongside (though not formally dependent on) the IETF DS1/E1 MIB (RFC 1406/2495) that later standardized similar objects. It was deployed on Wellfleet/Bay Networks routers terminating leased-line T1 circuits in enterprise WAN and telco access environments, and a Wellfleet-DS1-MIB download is needed to load the module into a MIB browser for interface configuration review.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Wellfleet-DS1-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Wellfleet router
  • Bay Networks/Nortel WAN router with T1 interfaces

Monitoring Examples

A network engineer polls the DS1 interface configuration objects to confirm the framing format and line coding match what the carrier has provisioned, then checks the associated error-performance counters (loss of signal, frame bit errors, line code violations) to see whether the circuit is experiencing bit errors. A steady climb in error seconds while framing stays configured correctly typically points to a degraded or misaligned T1 circuit rather than a router-side misconfiguration.

What Can Be Monitored

  • T1/DS1 framing format
  • line coding configuration
  • line error/violation counters
  • circuit operational status
