Category: Wellfleet BayNetworks System Management

Description: Manages Wellfleet MPLS Multi-Layer Multicast parameters and label-switched multicast tree statistics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Wellfleet-MPLS-MLM-MIB?

This is a vendor-specific proprietary MIB from Wellfleet Communications (later Bay Networks/Nortel) managing MPLS Multi-Layer Multicast (MLM) over ATM, covering the configuration and operational status of MPLS-enabled ATM interfaces and their label-switched multicast sessions. It exposes per-interface administrative and operational status, debug logging controls, circuit assignment, and a count of total active MPLS sessions. It directly supports hardware/software status monitoring: comparing an interface's administrative status against its actual operational status reveals interfaces that are configured up but functionally down, and the total session count indicates whether MPLS multicast trees are actively established. It conceptually parallels standard MPLS MIBs (e.g., MPLS-LSR-MIB) though implemented as a Wellfleet-proprietary ATM-specific extension. It is typically deployed on Wellfleet/Bay Networks MPLS-capable ATM routers carrying multicast traffic over label-switched paths. Engineers can download the Wellfleet-MPLS-MLM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Wellfleet-MPLS-MLM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Wellfleet/Bay Networks MPLS-capable ATM routers

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls wfMplsAtmIfConfTable/Entry (indexed by wfMplsAtmIfConfLineNumber) for wfMplsAtmIfAdminStatus, and cross-references wfMplsAtmIfStatusTable/Entry for the corresponding wfMplsAtmIfOperStatus on the same line. An interface with AdminStatus enabled but OperStatus down indicates an MPLS ATM link or LSP fault; wfMplsAtmIfTotalSess dropping to zero on an interface that previously carried active sessions would confirm a loss of MPLS multicast service on that circuit. wfMplsAtmIfDebugLogMask lets an engineer enable more verbose logging to diagnose the fault further.

What Can Be Monitored

  • MPLS ATM interface administrative status
  • MPLS ATM interface operational status
  • total active MPLS sessions per interface
  • circuit assignment
  • debug log mask setting
