What Is Wellfleet-MODCTL-MIB?
Wellfleet-MODCTL-MIB is a proprietary MIB from Wellfleet Communications/Bay Networks that manages module-level control on its chassis-based routers, covering the administrative state and diagnostic status of individual line/processor modules (slots/cards) within the chassis. It exposes objects for administratively enabling/disabling a module and for retrieving module-level diagnostic results and health indicators. This is a hardware-status MIB at its core: administrators use it to confirm each module in the chassis is administratively up and passing diagnostics, catching a failed or disabled card before it causes an outage on the interfaces it hosts. It works alongside Wellfleet's interface MIB (Wellfleet-IF-MIB), since a module's state directly determines the operational status of the interfaces physically located on it. It is deployed on all chassis-based Wellfleet/Bay Networks routers where multiple line/processor modules are installed and need individual hardware-level monitoring. Engineers can download the Wellfleet-MODCTL-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Wellfleet-MODCTL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Wellfleet/Bay Networks chassis-based router (legacy)
Monitoring Examples
No sample objects were provided, so this is inferred: an administrator would poll each module's administrative state and diagnostic result to confirm every card in the chassis is enabled and passing self-test. A module reporting a diagnostic failure or an unexpected administratively-disabled state would explain why all interfaces on that particular card have gone down simultaneously.
What Can Be Monitored
- module administrative state (enabled/disabled)
- module diagnostic/self-test results
- module health status
- slot/card presence
