What Is Wellfleet-WCP-MIB?

The Wellfleet-WCP-MIB is a vendor-specific SNMP module originally defined by Wellfleet Communications (later Bay Networks, then Nortel) for its WAN Compression Protocol (WCP) feature on Wellfleet/Bay routers. It exposes configuration and statistics for data compression applied to WAN links, including compression ratios and per-link protocol counters. Because no detailed object list is available for this module, its practical use centers on tracking whether compression is functioning correctly and how effectively it is reducing WAN bandwidth consumption, which indirectly reflects link and software health. As a proprietary enterprise MIB it stands alone but is normally polled alongside standard IF-MIB interface statistics for the same WAN interface. It would typically be deployed on legacy Wellfleet/Bay Networks routers carrying compressed WAN links in enterprise or service-provider backbones predating modern router lines. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the Wellfleet-WCP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Wellfleet-WCP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

What Can Be Monitored

  • WAN compression ratio
  • compression protocol statistics
  • compressed link status

Supported Devices

  • Wellfleet/Bay Networks WAN routers

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were available for this module in the source, so specific object names cannot be confirmed. Based on the short description, a network engineer would poll compression ratio and protocol statistics counters per WAN interface to see whether compression efficiency has dropped, which often signals a misconfigured or failing WCP-enabled link. Given the age and rarity of this MIB, most current tooling encounters it only on legacy hardware still in service.
