Description: Provides Wellfleet router module inventory, hardware revision, and operational status information.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Wellfleet-MODULE-MIB?

The Wellfleet-MODULE-MIB is a Wellfleet Communications proprietary MIB providing hardware inventory and status for the pluggable interface/processor modules installed in a Wellfleet chassis-based router. It exposes objects describing each module's type, hardware/firmware revision, and current operational status within the chassis slot structure. This is squarely a hardware-status MIB: it is the primary means of confirming whether a given line card or module is present, correctly identified, and running (versus failed, absent, or mismatched), which is essential for detecting a card that has crashed or been removed. It has no dependency on other MIBs beyond basic SNMP framework conventions, functioning as the router's self-contained inventory table. It was used across the full range of Wellfleet/Bay Networks chassis routers deployed in enterprise data centers and carrier POPs to track hardware asset status remotely, and administrators can download the Wellfleet-MODULE-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser for offline reference.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Wellfleet-MODULE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Wellfleet chassis router
  • Bay Networks/Nortel modular router

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls the module inventory table across all chassis slots to build an inventory of installed cards, their hardware revision, and firmware version, then checks each module's operational status field. A module that reports a 'failed' or 'not present' status where a card was previously known to be running indicates a hardware fault or a card that has been physically pulled, prompting an on-site hardware check.

What Can Be Monitored

  • installed module type/inventory
  • hardware and firmware revision
  • module operational status
  • slot occupancy
