What Is Wellfleet-DSX3-MIB?

Wellfleet-DSX3-MIB is a proprietary MIB from Wellfleet Communications/Bay Networks covering the DSX-3 digital cross-connect function and DS3 (T3) interface performance on its routers. It exposes configuration objects for the cross-connect mapping and performance statistics such as line errors, framing errors, and other DS3-layer counters for each DS3 interface/channel. It is primarily a hardware/line-performance monitoring MIB: administrators use it to watch DS3 error-second and signal-quality counters to detect a degrading physical circuit before it causes an outage. It parallels, and likely predates broad deployment of, the IETF standard DS3/DSX3 MIB conventions for T3 interface monitoring. It was typically deployed on Wellfleet/Bay Networks routers terminating DS3 (45 Mbps) WAN circuits, such as in telco or large enterprise WAN edge deployments. Engineers can download the Wellfleet-DSX3-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Wellfleet-DSX3-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Wellfleet/Bay Networks router with DS3/DSX-3 interfaces (legacy)

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were provided, so this is inferred: an administrator would poll DS3 line-error counters (e.g., framing errors, line code violations) for each DSX-3 channel to check circuit quality. A sudden increase in error-second counts on one DS3 channel, without a change in configuration, would point to a physical-layer problem such as a degrading cable, connector, or carrier-side circuit issue.

What Can Be Monitored

  • DS3 line/framing error counts
  • DSX-3 cross-connect configuration
  • DS3 interface signal quality statistics
