Category: World Wide Packets Metro Ethernet
Description: Manages World Wide Packets ICMP ping test operations, target configuration, and reachability test results.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is WWP-PING-MIB?
This proprietary World Wide Packets MIB enables SNMP-triggered ICMP ping tests from the device, exposing configuration for ping targets (destination address, packet count/size, interval) and results data (round-trip time, packet loss, reachability status). This is directly a network reachability/health-check MIB: an operator uses it to test and monitor whether specific remote hosts are reachable from the device's perspective, effectively using the device itself as a distributed diagnostic probe. It parallels the purpose of the IETF standard DISMAN-PING-MIB (RFC 4560) though implemented as a separate WWP proprietary schema. It is deployed on WWP switches/routers used as remote diagnostic points in a Metro Ethernet or WAN topology, particularly for verifying end-to-end reachability without CLI access. Engineers can download the WWP-PING-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in WWP-PING-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- World Wide Packets Metro Ethernet switch/router
Monitoring Examples
No sample objects were provided for this module in the source data. In general, a ping MIB of this kind exposes a test-configuration table (target address, count, interval) and a results table with round-trip time and loss percentage, which an operator would poll after configuring a test to confirm reachability to a remote site or detect intermittent packet loss on a WAN path.
What Can Be Monitored
- ping test target configuration
- round-trip time results
- packet loss percentage
- reachability/test completion status
