Organization: World Wide Packets, Inc

Last Updated: 2001-04-03

Category: World Wide Packets Metro Ethernet

Description: Monitors World Wide Packets per-port traffic counters including frames, bytes, errors, and utilization.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is WWP-PORT-STATS-MIB?

This World Wide Packets proprietary MIB provides per-port Ethernet statistics on WWP switches, covering frame counts, byte counts, error counters, and utilization figures, similar in spirit to the standard Interfaces/EtherLike-MIB counters but under the WWP schema. It exposes performance/traffic-counter data rather than configuration or environmental telemetry. This is a core performance-monitoring MIB: tracking rising error counters (such as CRC errors, collisions, or discards) or unusual utilization on a port reveals cabling problems, duplex mismatches, or congestion, all indicators of port-level hardware and software health. It closely parallels and likely complements the standard IF-MIB and EtherLike-MIB counter models. It is deployed across WWP Metro Ethernet switches for routine traffic and error-rate monitoring at the port level, and network engineers can download the WWP-PORT-STATS-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser for this purpose.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in WWP-PORT-STATS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • World Wide Packets Metro Ethernet switch

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were provided for this module in the source data. In general, a port-statistics MIB of this kind exposes a per-port table of frame/byte/error counters and utilization, which an operator would poll to spot a rising error-counter trend on a specific port, often a sign of a failing cable or a duplex mismatch, before a link degrades to unusable.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-port frame counts
  • per-port byte counts
  • per-port error counters
  • port utilization percentage
