Description: Manages Symbol Technologies wireless infrastructure system message logging severity levels and output destinations.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is WS-INFRA-SYSMSG-MIB?
WS-INFRA-SYSMSG-MIB is a Symbol Technologies MIB (wireless infrastructure, later part of Motorola/Zebra) for controlling the system message logging subsystem on its wireless switch/controller infrastructure, letting an administrator set logging severity levels and choose output destinations for log messages (e.g. console, syslog, internal buffer). It is a configuration-oriented MIB whose main monitoring value is confirming the software logging configuration state of the device -- verifying that the correct severity threshold and destinations are active so that important events aren't silently dropped -- rather than exposing hardware sensors or traffic counters itself. Because the actual log content it enables often surfaces device fault and status information indirectly, it plays a supporting role in overall software status visibility for the wireless infrastructure. It has no strong dependency on other MIBs beyond standard SNMP TC conventions for severity enumerations. It is deployed on Symbol/Motorola wireless switches and access-point controllers in enterprise WLAN deployments. Engineers can download the WS-INFRA-SYSMSG-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in WS-INFRA-SYSMSG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Symbol Technologies (Motorola/Zebra) wireless switches and WLAN controllers
Monitoring Examples
No specific object names were provided (sample_objects is empty), but consistent with its description an administrator would set or check the configured logging severity level and destination objects to confirm that, for example, warning-and-above messages are being sent to a syslog server; discovering the severity threshold was inadvertently reset to a very restrictive level would explain why expected fault messages were not being received.
What Can Be Monitored
- configured logging severity threshold
- log output destination(s)
- logging subsystem configuration state
