Description: Configures Symbol Technologies wireless infrastructure SMTP email notification destinations and alert conditions.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is WS-INFRA-SMTP-NOTIFY?
WS-INFRA-SMTP-NOTIFY is a Symbol Technologies (later Motorola/Zebra) wireless infrastructure module for configuring SMTP-based email notification of alert conditions on wireless switches/controllers. It exposes configuration objects for SMTP server destination, sender/recipient addressing, and which alert/status conditions trigger an outbound email notification. Its monitoring role is indirect but software-status oriented: it is the mechanism by which other fault/status conditions detected elsewhere on the wireless infrastructure (e.g., AP down, authentication failures) get surfaced to an administrator via email, so confirming its configuration and delivery status is itself a check that the alerting pipeline works. It depends on other Symbol wireless infrastructure MIBs that generate the underlying alert conditions this module forwards. It is deployed on Symbol/Motorola wireless switch controllers in enterprise Wi-Fi deployments where email alerting is used alongside or instead of SNMP traps. Engineers can download the WS-INFRA-SMTP-NOTIFY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in WS-INFRA-SMTP-NOTIFY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Symbol/Motorola wireless switch/controller
Monitoring Examples
No specific object names were sampled for this MIB; consistent with its purpose, an operator would poll the configured SMTP server address, sender/recipient settings, and enabled alert conditions to confirm email notifications are correctly routed, and a misconfigured or unreachable SMTP destination here would mean genuine wireless infrastructure faults go unreported by email even though the underlying condition was detected.
What Can Be Monitored
- SMTP server destination configuration
- notification sender/recipient addressing
- enabled alert condition list
- email notification delivery status
