What Is WHISP-PLV-MODEM-MIB?

WHISP-PLV-MODEM-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB for Motorola/Cambium Canopy PLV subscriber modems, part of the WHISP family covering point-to-multipoint and power-line/broadband access modem products. It exposes device identity and inventory data (model, serial number, MAC addresses), firmware and bootloader version information, current operating mode, and active bandwidth configuration. From a monitoring standpoint it is centered on software status: it tracks device and SIM firmware versions plus upgrade status fields, letting an administrator confirm whether a firmware push succeeded or is still pending, in addition to basic hardware identity. It is a standalone vendor MIB with no strong dependency chain, though it is commonly polled alongside standard MIB-II interface objects for link-layer statistics. Typical deployment is on fixed wireless broadband access networks, where WISPs and network operators rely on WHISP-PLV-MODEM-MIB SNMP monitoring to track modem fleets centrally across subscriber premises.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in WHISP-PLV-MODEM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Motorola/Cambium Canopy PLV subscriber modem
  • fixed wireless broadband CPE

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll modemInfoDeviceFirmwareVer and modemInfoSimFirmwareVer alongside modemInfoDeviceUpgradeStatus and modemInfoSimUpgradeStatus to confirm a remote firmware upgrade completed cleanly across a batch of subscriber modems. modemInfoModel, modemInfoSerialNumber, and modemInfoDeviceMac/modemInfoPlcMac provide the identity fields used to correlate SNMP data with inventory records. If modemInfoDeviceUpgradeStatus reports a failure or stuck state after a scheduled push, that signals the modem needs a manual firmware reflash.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using modemInfoDeviceUpgradeStatus OID:

Select a Motorola/Cambium Canopy PLV subscriber modem, fixed wireless broadband CPE (firmware/bootloader upgrade-status status) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type modemInfoDeviceUpgradeStatus into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. This object indicates the Modems last Software Upgrade Status. 1 - Upgrade not started 2 - Upgrade in progress 3 - Last Upgrade failed 4 - Last Upgrade was successful. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value becomes 'failed', since that indicates the modem's last software upgrade attempt did not complete successfully. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
