Category: WAN and Access
Description: Defines SNMP traps for WAN interface events including link failures, threshold violations, and circuit state changes.

What Is WAN-TRAP-MIB?
WAN-TRAP-MIB is an Extreme Networks vendor-specific MIB (originally authored by Optranet Networks, whose WAN blade product line and MIB tree were carried forward into Extreme's ExtremeWare/EXOS software after acquisition) that defines SNMP traps for WAN interface blade events. It declares six TRAP-TYPE notifications — wanDsx1LineStatusChange, wanDsx1LossOfMasterClock, wanDsx1NoLossOfMasterClock for T1/DS1 interfaces, and the T3/DS3 equivalents wanDsx3LineStatusChange, wanDsx3LossOfMasterClock, wanDsx3NoLossOfMasterClock — each carrying the standard dsx1LineIndex/dsx1IfIndex/dsx1LineStatus (or dsx3 equivalents) from RFC1406-MIB and RFC1407-MIB alongside sysUpTime and sysDescr. Because master-clock loss on a T1/T3 WAN blade typically causes silent framing/timing errors rather than an obvious link-down event, these traps are useful for immediately notifying an NMS when a WAN blade loses (or regains) its timing reference, which standard interface up/down traps would not catch. It depends on the underlying RFC1406/RFC1407 DS1/DS3 MIBs being implemented on the same WAN blade hardware, and this WAN-TRAP-MIB MIB is deployed on Extreme Networks switches equipped with T1/E1 or T3/E3 WAN blade modules.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in WAN-TRAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Extreme Networks switches with T1/E1 or T3/E3 WAN blade modules (originally Optranet Networks WAN blade hardware)
Monitoring Examples
An NMS receiving a wanDsx1LossOfMasterClock trap for a given dsx1IfIndex without a corresponding wanDsx1NoLossOfMasterClock trap shortly after would indicate the WAN blade's T1 timing reference remains lost, likely causing bit errors or framing slips on that circuit even though the line may still show as administratively up.
What Can Be Monitored
- DS1/T1 line status change events
- DS1/T1 master clock loss/recovery events
- DS3/T3 line status change events
- DS3/T3 master clock loss/recovery events
