What Is VOLIUS-OA-MIB?

VOLIUS-OA-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Volius covering their line of SNMP-enabled fiber-optic hardware, including optical amplifiers (EDFAs), fiber optical receivers, optical switches, and CATV optical transmitters. It exposes device identification (model name, serial number, firmware version, system date/time), environmental data (case temperature), power-supply voltage rail measurements, and operational runtime, alongside amplifier-specific gain/output-power and alarm data implied by the short description. It is explicitly built for hardware status monitoring: vlsCaseTemperature flags thermal issues, vlsSupplyVoltageTable/Entry tracks each voltage rail's nominal versus actual reading to catch power supply drift, and vlsOperationMinutes tracks cumulative uptime/runtime of the unit. An operator would poll vlsCaseTemperature and vlsSupplyVoltageTable (indexed by vlsSupplyVoltageIndex, comparing vlsSupplyVoltageNominal against vlsSupplyVoltageActual) to detect a rail drifting out of tolerance before it causes amplifier gain instability. vlsOperationMinutes would be tracked to know the cumulative runtime of a given optical amplifier for maintenance scheduling, and vlsFirmwareVersion checked to confirm all units in a headend run consistent software. vlsModelName and vlsSerialNumber let a monitoring inventory uniquely identify each physical unit in the field.
