What Is VOLIUS-OR-MIB?

VOLIUS-OR-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Volius covering its line of SNMP-enabled optical transport hardware, including fiber optical receivers, erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs), optical switches, and CATV optical transmitters used in cable-TV/fiber signal distribution networks. It exposes device identification data (model, serial number, firmware version) alongside environmental and power-supply telemetry for each unit. Monitoring use is squarely hardware-health focused: it surfaces case temperature to catch overheating optical modules, and a supply-voltage table reporting nominal versus actual voltage per rail to detect a failing or out-of-spec power supply before it causes signal degradation. It also tracks firmware version and device date/time/timezone, useful for configuration and software-version auditing across a fleet of regenerator units. It is typically deployed by cable/fiber network operators managing head-end or distribution-node optical regeneration and amplification equipment. Engineers can download the VOLIUS-OR-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

An admin would poll vlsCaseTemperature on each optical module to catch thermal issues before they cause signal quality problems, and walk vlsSupplyVoltageTable (vlsSupplyVoltageEntry, indexed by vlsSupplyVoltageIndex) comparing vlsSupplyVoltageNominal against vlsSupplyVoltageActual to spot a power rail drifting out of tolerance. vlsModelName, vlsSerialNumber, and vlsFirmwareVersion together let an operator inventory and audit firmware compliance across deployed regenerator/amplifier units. vlsSupplySelectMode indicates the current power-supply selection mode, useful for confirming failover behavior on dual-supply units.
