Description: Manages Volius optical transponder channel configuration, wavelength, and power levels.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is VOLIUS-OT-MIB?
This is a Volius vendor MIB covering the company's family of SNMP-enabled fiber optical hardware, including fiber optical receivers, Erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs), optical switches, and CATV optical transmitters. It exposes device identification (model, serial number, firmware and bootloader versions), system date/time and timezone, environmental readings (case temperature, fan speed), and a table of supply voltages compared against nominal values. It is squarely a hardware health MIB: case temperature and fan speed reveal thermal problems, the supply voltage table flags a failing power rail against its nominal value, and firmware/bootloader version confirms the software running on the unit. It appears to be a standalone enterprise MIB without an explicit dependency on other standard MIBs. It is deployed in CATV/fiber-optic head-end and outside-plant equipment such as optical amplifiers, transmitters, and switches in HFC/fiber access networks. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the VOLIUS-OT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in VOLIUS-OT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Volius optical transponders/receivers/EDFAs/optical switches
- CATV optical transmitters
Monitoring Examples
An admin would poll vlsCaseTemperature and vlsFanSpeed to detect a transponder overheating due to fan failure, and check vlsSupplyVoltageTable (indexed by vlsSupplyVoltageIndex) comparing live voltage against vlsSupplyVoltageNominal to catch a failing power rail; vlsFirmwareVersion and vlsBootLoaderVersion confirm the unit is running the expected software.
What Can Be Monitored
- case temperature
- fan speed
- supply voltage vs. nominal
- firmware/bootloader version
- system date/time and timezone
