Category: Power and Environmental Monitoring
Description: Monitors Vertical Networks environmental sensors including temperature and power on office systems.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is VERTICAL-ENV-MIB?
VERTICAL-ENV-MIB is a vendor-specific module from Vertical Networks (maker of converged voice/data office communication systems) covering the environmental sensors built into their equipment. Given its name and short description, it exposes data such as chassis temperature and power supply state — the physical operating environment of the system rather than traffic or configuration data. It is squarely an environmental/hardware-health MIB, meant for monitoring whether the enclosure is overheating or losing power redundancy, the kind of check that precedes a hardware failure. It has minimal apparent dependency on other MIBs beyond the standard SNMPv2-SMI enterprise structure, defining its own "vertical" object subtree. It would typically be deployed in a small/medium business telephony closet where a Vertical Networks system handles converged office communications, polled to catch environmental problems before they cause an outage. Engineers can download the VERTICAL-ENV-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in VERTICAL-ENV-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Vertical Networks office communication system
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll the temperature sensor objects under the vertical enterprise subtree on a schedule and alert if readings exceed a safe threshold, indicating inadequate closet ventilation. Power-related objects would similarly be checked to confirm the unit's supply is within nominal range, with an alarm raised if voltage sags or a redundant supply fails. Because the sample objects available are limited to the top-level "vertical" registration node, exact object names for temperature/power leaves are inferred from the short description rather than directly observed.
What Can Be Monitored
- chassis/enclosure temperature
- power supply status
- environmental alarm state
