What Is VERTIV-V5-MIB?

VERTIV-V5-MIB is a vendor MIB from Vertiv (formerly Emerson Network Power) covering the "V5" product platform, used to manage power and cooling infrastructure such as UPS, PDU, and thermal management units. It exposes device identity and inventory data (product title, version, model, part and serial numbers, MAC address, hostname, platform) alongside environmental data such as temperature units and device counts. Its monitoring role centers on hardware/software status of the power/cooling device itself — firmware/software version tracking via productVersion, hardware identification via productSerialNumber/productModelNumber, and environmental conditions via temperature-related objects, useful for verifying device identity and health during fleet management. No explicit dependency on other MIBs is indicated; it appears to be a self-contained vendor MIB. It is typically deployed on Vertiv UPS, PDU, and precision cooling/thermal management units in data center and telecom facilities. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the VERTIV-V5-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in VERTIV-V5-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Vertiv UPS units
  • Vertiv PDUs
  • Vertiv precision cooling/thermal management systems

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll productFriendlyName, productModelNumber, productSerialNumber, and productVersion under deviceInfo to confirm firmware version and hardware identity of a Vertiv V5 unit, and check temperatureUnits together with deviceCount to validate the number of managed sub-devices reporting into the imd (intelligent monitoring device) subtree. A mismatch between expected productVersion and the polled value would flag a unit running outdated firmware needing an update.

What Can Be Monitored

  • product/firmware version
  • product model and serial number
  • device hostname and MAC address
  • temperature units
  • managed device count

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using pduMainAvail OID:

Select a Vertiv UPS units, Vertiv PDUs, Vertiv precision cooling/thermal management system (identity/firmware/temperature status) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type pduMainAvail into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the device availability: 0 = Unavailable 1 = Available 2 = Partially Unavailable. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Gauge32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value drifts significantly from its normal baseline, since an unexpected change often points to a real underlying issue. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
