Description: Specifies conformance requirements for Unisphere SMDS interface management on ERX platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is Unisphere-Data-SMDS-CONF?
Unisphere-Data-SMDS-CONF is a vendor-specific conformance module from Unisphere Networks (later Juniper's ERX platform) that specifies the agent capabilities requirements for the Switched Multimegabit Data Service (SMDS) management component of the SNMP agent on Unisphere Routing Switch products. Rather than defining monitorable data objects itself, it declares which SMDS-related objects and groups a compliant agent implementation must support, serving as a conformance/compliance reference rather than a live data source. Consequently its connection to hardware/software status monitoring is indirect: it certifies that a device's SNMP agent correctly implements the SMDS management objects (defined in a companion SMDS MIB) that would expose actual interface and traffic status for legacy SMDS links. It has an inherent dependency on the corresponding Unisphere SMDS data MIB whose objects it constrains agent support for. It would have been used on legacy Unisphere/Juniper ERX routers supporting SMDS wide-area interfaces, a technology largely superseded by Frame Relay and ATM. Engineers can download the Unisphere-Data-SMDS-CONF file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Unisphere-Data-SMDS-CONF. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Unisphere Networks (later Juniper) ERX Routing Switch
Monitoring Examples
A test or certification engineer would use this conformance module to validate that a given Unisphere agent build correctly implements the required SMDS object groups before it is considered compliant, rather than an operator polling it for live status. There are no sample objects provided since AGENT-CAPABILITIES modules do not expose runtime data themselves. Any actual SMDS interface status (e.g., link state, cell counts) would be found in the companion Unisphere SMDS data MIB that this conformance statement references.
What Can Be Monitored
- SMDS agent capability/conformance compliance
- supported SMDS management object groups
