Category: Juniper Unisphere ERX Routing

Description: Covers Distance Vector Multicast Routing Protocol neighbor relationships and multicast routes on Unisphere ERX devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Unisphere-Data-DVMRP-MIB?

Unisphere-Data-DVMRP-MIB is a vendor-specific enterprise MIB from Unisphere Networks (whose ERX edge router line became part of Juniper) that extends the standard DVMRP-STD-MIB with additional management objects for Distance Vector Multicast Routing Protocol. It models DVMRP administrative state (usdDvmrpAdminState, usdDvmrpMcastAdminState), access-list-based neighbor distance filtering (usdDvmrpAclDistNbrTable), interface metric offsets and auto-summary (usdDvmrpInterfaceTable, which augments dvmrpInterfaceEntry), and live multicast forwarding state via the prune table (usdDvmrpPruneTable) and source-group outgoing-interface table (usdDvmrpSrcGrpOifTable), plus a usdDvmrpRouteHogNotificationTrap that fires when route additions exceed a configured threshold. Monitoring these objects helps operators verify DVMRP neighbor relationships, multicast route pruning, and downstream interface forwarding state on ERX routers carrying IP multicast traffic. It depends on the IETF DVMRP-STD-MIB for its base interface table and augmentation semantics, and administrators can download the Unisphere-Data-DVMRP-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Unisphere-Data-DVMRP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Unisphere Networks / Juniper ERX edge routers

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls usdDvmrpPruneTable to see which (group, source) pairs have been pruned on a given upstream interface, then checks usdDvmrpSrcGrpOifTable for usdDvmrpSrcGrpOifOIFPruned/OIFDnTTL on downstream interfaces; a downstream OIF stuck in a pruned state past its expected TTL while receivers are still present would indicate a broken multicast forwarding path.

What Can Be Monitored

  • DVMRP admin/multicast enable state
  • access-list-based neighbor distance table entries
  • DVMRP interface metric offsets and auto-summary config
  • route hog notification threshold and trap
  • prune table entries and upstream interface state
  • source-group outgoing-interface pruned/TTL state
