What Is Unisphere-Data-DS1-MIB?

Unisphere-Data-DS1-MIB is a proprietary MIB from Unisphere Networks (later part of Juniper's E-series) that supplements the standard RFC 1406 DS1/E1 MIB with additional managed objects for DS1/E1 interfaces on their ERX Routing Switch family. It exposes a configuration table covering time-slot mapping, DS1 channel numbering, device capabilities, operating mode, line build-out type/attenuation/length, and the lower-layer interface index each DS1 rides on. Its monitoring focus is hardware/physical-layer status of DS1/E1 circuit interfaces — confirming line configuration (build-out, attenuation, length) matches the physical cabling and that the interface is correctly mapped and operating in the intended mode — which underpins detection of line-length or signal-attenuation related transmission problems. It explicitly depends on and extends the standard RFC 1406 DS1/E1 MIB, reusing its base interface model while adding Unisphere-specific detail, and pairs with corresponding conformance/compliance objects (usdDs1Conformance, usdDs1Compliances). It is deployed on Unisphere/Juniper ERX Routing Switch platforms terminating DS1/E1 circuits, typically at service-provider access aggregation points. Engineers can download the Unisphere-Data-DS1-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Unisphere-Data-DS1-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Unisphere Networks (Juniper) ERX Routing Switch

Monitoring Examples

An admin would walk usdDsx1ConfigTable (usdDsx1ConfigEntry rows keyed by usdDsx1Ds1ChannelNumber) to check usdDsx1Mode against usdDsx1Capabilities to confirm the interface is operating in a supported mode, and compare usdDsx1LineBuildOutType, usdDsx1LineAttenuation, and usdDsx1LineLength against the expected physical cable run. usdDsx1TimeSlotMap shows which DS0 timeslots are allocated on the DS1, and usdDsx1LowerIfIndex ties the entry back to the standard interface table; a mismatch between configured line length/attenuation and actual cable distance would explain framing errors reported elsewhere via the base DS1/E1 MIB.

What Can Be Monitored

  • DS1 channel time-slot mapping
  • operating mode vs. device capabilities
  • line build-out type and attenuation
  • line length setting
  • lower-layer interface association
