Category: Network Management and SNMP Infrastructure

Description: Monitors UMS system health status including component availability and service performance metrics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is UMSHEALTH-MIB?

UMSHEALTH-MIB is a vendor-specific SNMP module (again using iBMPSG naming, tied to an IBM/BMC-style Unified Management System) that models the overall health status of software components and services within that management platform. It exposes a component health table tracking each monitored component's current state, previous state, timestamp of last state change, a human-readable description, and an event category with suggested resolution guidance. Its purpose is squarely software/service status monitoring: it lets an operator see at a glance which internal UMS components are healthy, degraded, or failed, when that state last changed, and what remediation is suggested, functioning like an internal service-health dashboard exposed via SNMP. It depends on the same underlying iBMPSG/UMS management framework as UMSAOL-MIB rather than any IETF standard. It is typically deployed within enterprise systems management platforms to give external NMS tools visibility into the health of the management software itself. Engineers can download the UMSHEALTH-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in UMSHEALTH-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • IBM/BMC-style unified management system (UMS) server/software platform

Monitoring Examples

An operator can poll iBMPSGUMSComponentHealthTable and inspect iBMPSGUMSComponentHealthCurrentState versus iBMPSGUMSComponentHealthLastState for each iBMPSGUMSComponentHealthEntry to detect components that have transitioned from healthy to degraded or failed. The iBMPSGUMSComponentHealthDateTime and iBMPSGUMSComponentHealthLastUpdate fields show how recently the state was refreshed, helping distinguish a stale record from an active fault. iBMPSGUMSComponentHealthResolution provides suggested remediation steps, and iBMPSGUMSComponentHealthSourceObjectPath pinpoints which internal object or service triggered the event, useful when a component repeatedly flips into a failed state.

What Can Be Monitored

  • component current/last health state
  • state change timestamp
  • event category
  • suggested resolution
  • source component path
