Category: Network Management and SNMP Infrastructure

Description: Manages UniServ network service configuration, session tracking, and service availability monitoring.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is UNISERV-MIB?

UNISERV-MIB is a vendor-specific SNMP module using 'kaimachine'-prefixed objects, suggesting it manages Amdahl/Fujitsu-lineage mainframe or server ('KAI') service configuration, session tracking, and availability monitoring within a UniServ network service platform. It exposes objects describing each managed machine's identity (node, server ID, model), partition count, and overall monitoring/availability status. From a monitoring perspective it centers on hardware/platform status: tracking whether a given machine is available, its partitioning configuration, and its current monitoring state, which is the kind of data an operator would use to confirm a large server or mainframe-class system is online and correctly partitioned. It appears to be a self-contained vendor MIB without an obvious dependency on IETF standard MIBs. It is typically deployed in data centers managing large multi-partition servers or mainframe-class systems where session and service availability tracking is critical. Engineers can download the UNISERV-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in UNISERV-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Amdahl/Fujitsu-lineage mainframe or large multi-partition server

Monitoring Examples

An operator can walk the kaimachine table to see kaimachineNode, kaimachineServerID, and kaimachineModel identifying each managed system, alongside kaimachineNoOfPartitions showing how many logical partitions are configured. kaimachineMonitoringStatus and kaimachineState reveal whether the machine is currently considered available/healthy or in a degraded/down monitoring state. A machine whose kaimachineState changes unexpectedly while kaimachineNoOfPartitions stays constant would flag a platform-level availability issue rather than a configuration change.

What Can Be Monitored

  • machine/node identity
  • server model
  • partition count
  • machine monitoring/availability state
