Description: Manages Nokia Tropic virtual tributary and subnetwork connection configuration in optical transport.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TROPIC-VTSCONN-MIB?

TROPIC-VTSCONN-MIB is a Nokia (Tropic/optical transport) vendor-specific MIB that models Virtual Tributary/Subnetwork (VTS) cross-connections between client and line ports on optical transport modules. Its core tnVtsConnTable maps a source interface and VTS (tnVtsConnSrcIfIndex, tnVtsConnSrcVts) to a destination interface and VTS (tnVtsConnDestIfIndex, tnVtsConnDestVts), while tnVtsConnAdminState/tnVtsConnOperState track whether the connection is enabled and actually up, and tnVtsConnCIR/EIR/CBS/EBS carry committed and excess rate/burst traffic-shaping parameters. Related tables — tnVtsMapTable, tnIngressVtsCmodeMapTable, and tnEgressVtsCmodeMapTable — define VLAN classification mappings (CEVLAN/SVLAN tagging, source/destination IP matching) that determine which client traffic gets carried over a given VTS connection. It depends on the broader TROPIC-GLOBAL-REG enterprise registration for its OID placement and on IF-MIB for InterfaceIndex references, and is deployed on Nokia optical transport nodes provisioning virtual tributary connections in metro/access transport networks — network engineers auditing these deployments reference the TROPIC-VTSCONN-MIB MIB when interpreting cross-connect and classification table entries.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TROPIC-VTSCONN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nokia Tropic optical transport modules / port modules

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls tnVtsConnTable entries to compare tnVtsConnAdminState against tnVtsConnOperState for a given source/destination interface pair, and checks tnVtsConnRowStatus and tnVtsConnProtectionState; an operational state that lags behind the administrative state, or a protection state showing a failed protection switch, would indicate a broken virtual tributary cross-connect.

What Can Be Monitored

  • VTS cross-connect table entries (source/destination interface and VTS mapping)
  • connection admin/operational state
  • protection switching state
  • CIR/EIR/CBS/EBS traffic-shaping parameters
  • VLAN classification mapping tables
