Category: Nokia Optical Transport

Description: Defines Nokia Tropic express scalar objects for system-wide optical transport network parameters.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TROPIC-EXPRSCALARS?

This module defines system-wide scalar objects for Nokia's Tropic Networks optical transport platform — global, chassis-level parameters that apply to the whole network element rather than to an individual card or interface. Such scalars typically cover overall system identification, global configuration settings, and possibly aggregate status indicators for the optical transport system as a whole. Because scalar system objects commonly include things like overall system uptime, global operational mode, or chassis-wide alarm summary state, this module contributes to top-level hardware/software status monitoring for the platform, complementing the more granular per-card and per-interface MIBs in the Tropic suite. It is tightly coupled to the rest of the Tropic Networks MIB family (control card, fan, statistics, OTU/ODU, GMPLS modules), sharing the same chassis and often relying on common indexing/textual conventions defined elsewhere in that suite. It is deployed in carrier DWDM/optical transport network elements as part of the overall element management system, where TROPIC-EXPRSCALARS SNMP monitoring supplies the chassis-wide scalar context for the rest of the Tropic MIB suite.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TROPIC-EXPRSCALARS. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nokia (Tropic Networks) DWDM optical transport network element

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were supplied for this module; based on its documented role as "express scalar objects," it would expose a handful of chassis-wide, non-tabular parameters (e.g., a system-level status or configuration scalar) for the optical transport network element as a whole, rather than per-slot or per-port data captured elsewhere in the Tropic MIB suite.

What Can Be Monitored

  • system-wide operational status
  • global configuration state
