Category: Switch and Device Management, Wireless LAN Management
Description: Manages Trapeze Networks WLAN controller cluster membership, peer synchronization, and failover state.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is TRAPEZE-NETWORKS-CLUSTER-MIB?
This Trapeze Networks (later Juniper) MIB manages wireless LAN controller clustering, tracking which access points are assigned to which primary and secondary AP Manager controllers within a cluster to support high-availability failover. It exposes an AP-to-cluster assignment table recording each AP's number, its primary and secondary AP Manager IP addresses, and whether the AP is currently connected to each. This is fundamentally a software availability/failover-status MIB: the connectivity objects directly report whether an AP has failed over to its secondary controller or lost contact with both, which is critical for detecting a wireless outage before end users notice. It is a vendor-proprietary extension used alongside Trapeze's broader wireless MIB suite and standard SNMPv2 conformance conventions. Typically deployed in enterprise WLAN environments using Trapeze/Juniper wireless switches with clustered controllers for AP high availability. Engineers can download the TRAPEZE-NETWORKS-CLUSTER-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TRAPEZE-NETWORKS-CLUSTER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Trapeze Networks wireless LAN controllers/switches
- Trapeze wireless access points
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll trpzClusterApAssignmentTable/trpzClusterApAssignmentEntry, keyed by trpzClusterApAssignApNum, to see each AP's assigned trpzClusterApAssignPamIp and trpzClusterApAssignSamIp. Checking trpzClusterApAssignConnectedToPam and trpzClusterApAssignConnectedToSam reveals whether the AP is currently connected to its primary, its secondary, or neither — an AP showing false for both would indicate it has lost contact with the entire cluster and is likely offline or isolated.
What Can Be Monitored
- AP-to-controller cluster assignment
- primary AP manager connectivity
- secondary AP manager (failover) connectivity
- AP cluster membership status
