Description: Manages TP-Link switch system maintenance tools including firmware upgrade and configuration backup.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is TPLINK-SYSTOOL-MIB?
TPLINK-SYSTOOL-MIB is a TP-Link enterprise MIB exposing system-maintenance action objects on TP-Link managed switches, most notably triggers for rebooting the device, resetting it to factory defaults, and saving the running configuration to persistent storage. Rather than passive counters, its objects are largely action/command triggers (tpSysToolReBoot, tpSysToolReSet, tpSysToolConfigSave) paired with a notifications group that reports when such actions occur. Its role in hardware/software status monitoring is direct: it is how an administrator or automated script performs and confirms a controlled reboot or config save, and the associated notifications let a monitoring system record unplanned or scheduled reboots, factory resets, and configuration-save events as they happen. It is a TP-Link-specific companion to the standard system-level objects in MIB-II's system group, adding actionable maintenance controls beyond passive status. It is used in day-to-day switch administration for remote maintenance and in automated provisioning/config-management workflows, and administrators can download the TPLINK-SYSTOOL-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser for these tasks.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TPLINK-SYSTOOL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- TP-Link managed switch
Monitoring Examples
An administrator (or automation script) writes to tpSysToolReBoot to remotely restart a switch after a firmware upgrade, then polls the device to confirm it comes back online, while tplinkSysToolNotifications would alert an NMS that a reboot occurred if it happened unexpectedly outside a maintenance window. Similarly, triggering tpSysToolConfigSave and watching for its corresponding notification confirms a configuration change was actually committed to persistent storage rather than left only in running memory. A tpSysToolReSet event captured via notifications would flag that a switch was returned to factory defaults, which is a significant, disruptive change worth alerting on.
What Can Be Monitored
- reboot trigger/status
- factory reset trigger/status
- configuration save status
- system maintenance event notifications
